Spicy Devil Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius ‘ZLENatalie’ PPAF
Bred by Dr. David Zlesak and introduced by Bailey Nurseries/First Editions® Shrubs & Trees.
Spicy Devil Ninebark is a great drought-resistant structural shrub with plenty of multi-season interest to keep your garden exciting spring through fall. Leaves emerge a fiery combination of orange and yellow before maturing to a vibrant reddish-purple. In the spring, the dark leaves are a beautiful backdrop to the white-pink spring flowers. With year-long gorgeous dark foliage, Spicy Devil is a fantastic foundation plant or small hedge in cool and moderate climates. It is as a low maintenance plant that growers, retailers, and consumers can all count on. While drought-resistant, Spicy Devil can also adapt to wet soil. It is also mildew-resistant. The multi-season interest is also a differentiator, with orange and yellow foliage early in the season, a flush of white-pink flowers in early spring, and vibrant red-purple fall foliage. Reaches 3–4 feet tall and wide. Zones 3–7.
Available as #2 and #5 containers from Everde Growers (Booth 14037), Kraemer’s Nursery Inc. (Booth 15031), and Means Nursery Inc. (Booth 15011).
