Nightfall Snowbell
Styrax japonicus ‘JFS 6SJ’
Bred by Keith Warren in Boring, Oregon and introduced by J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co.
Purple leaves emerge with green undertones and provide a lush, high-contrast backdrop for slender, pearly-white, flower buds of late spring. These open to reveal creamy white, bell-shaped blooms. Offset by dark foliage, the flowers cascade from its weeping branches, just in time to ring in summer. Leaves darken as the season wears on, becoming deep purple by summer’s end. Bare branches etch a graceful waterfall in the winter landscape. A breakthrough in Japanese Snowbell breeding, Nightfall is the first to combine the deep purple foliage of Evening Light Snowbell with the gracefully weeping form of green leafed cultivars such as Fragrant Fountain. Reaches 8 feet tall by 6 feet wide. Hardy to Zone 5.
Available as #10 containers and multiple bare root sizes from J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. (Booth 19026).
