Chastity® Pear

Pyrus × triploida ‘NCPX2’ PP30788

Developed by Dr. Tom Ranney of North Carolina State University, and introduced by J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co.

Large white blooms smother the branches of this nearly seedless hybrid ornamental pear. Flowers are followed by leaves that emerge bright green and become dark green as they mature. Fall color is a kaleidoscopic medley of red, orange, yellow and purple colors tones. Broadly pyramidal in youth, it matures to an upright oval shape with sturdy branches and a dominant central leader. Poised to replace other flowering pears in areas where invasiveness is a concern, this fire blight-resistant hybrid is a highly infertile, induced triploid hybrid, specifically bred to prevent weediness. Developed by Dr. Tom Ranney of North Carolina State University, Chastity Pear delivers the beauty and durability of flowering pears without its negative characteristics. Reaches 35 feet tall by 25 feet wide. Hardy to Zone 5.

Available as multiple bare root and container sizes from J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. (Booth 19026).
