Akadama™ is a beautiful mophead hydrangea with uniquely colored flowers that actually change to different hues of red over the course of the long-lasting bloom period. With a lower pH soil, flowers are lavender to purple. Blooms last up to two months on sturdy stems, and the habit is mounded to slightly upright. The foliage has a tinge of burgundy during the growing season with a more intense burgundy color in the fall. Plants of the new cultivar differ from plants of the parent primarily flower color, the new cultivar is a solid red-purple color while the parent is pink and red-purple bicolored.
