Karen Stever, Ph.D., transitioned to a career in horticulture almost three decades ago, after working as a research chemist. Stever partnered in ItSaul Plants, a plant introduction company, in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. She managed production for the landscape market, as well as tissue culture production of new plant introductions. Stever has been supporting professional growers for the last nine years as a technical specialist with Griffin’s GGSPro team. The team provides technical advice to growers in the areas of chemical and biological insect control, disease control, plant nutrition, and general cultural methods. Stever is a certified PCA and has presented numerous educational programs to industry groups across the country.
Success with biological pest control requires developing a strategy that accounts for the nature of the crops being grown, environmental conditions, and expected pests. Another important element of developing an effective biocontrol strategy is defining what success means. [read more]
