Red Sentinel™ Maple
Acer rubrum ‘WW Warren’ PPAF
Derived from a controlled cross made by Keith Warren in 2006 and introduced by J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co.
Towering straight, tall and narrow, Red Sentinel™ Maple delivers a bright combination of medium green, anthracnose resistant foliage in summer that casts cool shade. It combines the best attributes of a popular but slow-growing columnar cultivar and an unnamed selection from the JFS Acer rubrum breeding program. Its fiery red fall foliage is much brighter than the fall color of other columnar red maples. Its well-spaced branches have open angles aligned symmetrically along a straight trunk. Together with a dominant central leader, they present a commanding, storm-resistant winter silhouette. Perfectly suited for street tree plantings, parks and tight urban spaces, it’s a great choice for today’s compact residential properties as well as country landscapes and alleés. Matures to 18 feet wide by 40 tall. Hardy in zones 5–9.
Available in bareroot 4–7-foot whips and 6-foot branched to 1 1/4” caliper, and in #3, #5, #7, #10 and #15 containers from J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. (Booth #19026).
