Business Description
The Chicagoland Grows®, Inc., Plant Introduction Program was established in 1986 as a partnership of the Chicago Botanic Garden, The Morton Arboretum, and the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois (OGA) with the goal of selecting, evaluating, and introducing a diversity of new landscape plants to Midwestern and equivalent landscapes. From landscape trees and shrubs developed by The Morton Arboretum, OGA, and other partnering nurseries, to perennials and grasses developed by Chicago Botanic Garden and other regional nurseries, all of our selections are well adapted for landscape use in the upper Midwest and in other temperate regions comparable to USDA Hardiness Zones 4-6. Among our better known selections from The Morton Arboretum are the Exclamation!â„¢ London planetree, State Street® Miyabe maple, and their hybrid elms (Accoladeâ„¢, Commendationâ„¢, Triumphâ„¢, and others). Our perennial plant introductions include the Prairiebluesâ„¢ false indigos, selections of moss phlox, ironweeds, and spreading speedwells from Chicago Botanic Garden, and several selections of native grasses, such as Carousel little bluestem and Bad Hair Day switchgrass. While regional in focus, the program's plants are made available in all appropriate growing regions of North America and Europe. Nearly 115 nurseries are licensed with the program to trial, propagate and sell our plant introductions. We are always open to licensing additional nurseries.
