Join in the celebration and get to know the hottest new plant varieties that are about to hit garden centers next spring! The 2017 Farwest New Varieties Showcase boasts more than 40 spectacular selections that are vying to become must-haves on any gardener's list. These new plants can help grow your business, beautify your surroundings and elevate your customers' experience in the garden. With improvements such as sterility, hardiness and unique flower and/or foliage colors, these selections have the attributes your customers are searching for — and will empty their pocketbooks to get their hands on.

To be accepted into the showcase, plants must demonstrate truly unique or improved characteristics that are new to the market. Selections must be available for current or future sales by at least one Farwest exhibitor. Additionally, at the time of offering, these plants must also be in large-scale production and readily available.

Take-it-with-you tags from Macore Company provide specific plant information such as height, width, color and unique characteristics, as well as a list of growers or representatives at the show where you can place orders for these new varieties.

On Wednesday, awards will be given to the top picks as selected by a panel of distinguished industry judges. Show attendees will also get the chance to weigh in by voting for their top three favorites for the People's Choice awards when they visit the showcase. On Friday the votes will be tallied and winners will be announced.

The Farwest Trade Show is always a good time to see people face-to-face and close orders. This year, it was the best show in four years. I talked to several people who wrote orders. But Farwest is just as good of an opportunity to buy as it is to sell. You can see a piece of equipment, ask questions, and find out how it can be customized. It takes less time. For a small business like ours, that's very important.
