Celebrating the Diversity of the Genus Acer at the 2012 Farwest Show
|
The Farwest Show continues to look for ways to increase exhibitor visibility, inspire and educate attendees and celebrate the industry. Plant-focused display areas on the expo floor please the eye, provide information about growers, and help everyone expand their plant knowledge and palette.
In 2011, we celebrated the Year of the Conifer with dedicated space on the show floor, conifers displayed in the expo floor boulevards, and a nursery tour focused on conifer growers. PR efforts also heightened awareness of the plant family.
|
At the 2012 show, we will Celebrate the Diversity of the Genus Acer: from Petite Palmatums to Stately Shade Trees. If you are exhibiting at the 2012 Farwest Show and grow Acer species or cultivars—from liners to specimens, for the collector to the commercially produced—please plan to showcase one or more of your Acers in the display. This is a FREE marketing opportunity.

We'll be looking for a wide variety of plants in the Acer family with attributes including different forms ("shrubs" to specimen shade trees, single and multi-stem, low and high grafts), shapes (vase, broad, columnar, weeping, etc.), bark color and texture (yellow, red, rough, peeling, etc.), different leaf size and shape, and a mix of leaf color. Boxed, B&B or in nursery containers, it doesn't matter. We also want to showcase plants from small to the largest grower, encouraging as many Farwest Show exhibitors to participate as possible.
Each plant in the display will be signed with botanical name and name and booth number of the providing nursery. The display will be in highly visible, high traffic areas of the expo floor and decorating the boulevards. (These areas are identified on the show floor layout.)
We want to provide an early "heads up" so you can groom your plants for the display. So that we can properly curate the display, we hope it will include these and other species, crosses and cultivars: Acer barbinerve, buergerianum, campestre, capillipes, carpinifolium, caudatum, circinatum, davidii, x freemanii, ginnala, glabrum, grandidentatum, griseum, henryi, japonicum, macrophyllum, mandshuricum, maximowiczianum, miyabei, monspessulanum, negundo, nigrum, palmatum, pensylvanicum, pictum, platanoides, , pseudo-sieboldianum, pseudoplatanus, rubrum, rufinerve, saccharinum, saccharum, shirasawanum, sieboldianum, sterculiaceum, tataricum, tegmentosum, triflorum, truncatum, and tschonoskii.
Let us know of your interest in participating (remember, it's FREE!) by contacting Ann Murphy (amurphy@oan.org, 503.582.2011). More details about the display will be coming your way in the May, June, and July time frame.
Help yourselves. Help the show. Help the industry. Showcase your plants in the Celebrate the Diversity of the Genus Acer display at the 2012 Farwest Show.
Sincerely,
